As a person with a very weak stomach, it doesn’t take much for me to lose my appetite. But if I had to choose the most nauseating, grotesque thing that I can think of, it would be cannibalism. This absurd atrocity, is when humans eat the flesh or organs of another human being. That’s a taste that I would never want to have in my mouth.
But sadly, this is a practice among Christians. Of course this is figurative language, not literal. The Bible clearly states that we are the body of Christ. There are many members of this body that have a multiplicity of functions.
It seems to be the trend now, to tear down, berate and belittle any Christian that we have a disagreement with. Listen to the words of Paul in Galatians 5:15.
But if you BITE and DEVOUR one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
Wow! According to these words, there is CANNIBAL CHRISTIANITY.
No, I do not agree with everyone’s philosophy and certainly I have questions about others theology. But the Bible clearly states, that satan is the accuser of the Christian. Why in the world would we want to work in league with that loser, and do his job for him? According to Peter, satan is as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. It seems like a no brainer to me that we would bite and devour the same people that satan is trying to destroy.
It’s possible to stand up for what you believe in without biting and devouring those with whom you disagree.
It is my feeling that we are leaving a bad taste in the mouth of non-believers, because of the bad taste in our mouths of another believer.
Just like in your natural family, we will never all get along all of the time. We will have disagreements and there will be times of misunderstanding, but we are still the body of Christ. There is right and there is wrong, but you can be right with a wrong attitude.
Why don’t we stop CHEWING each other out, and CHOOSE to walk in love? We are clearly commanded to build up the body of Christ and not tear it down. Today, I recommit to walk in love and not be a stumbling block to the thousands that are looking for real Christians in a world that really needs Jesus.
